Brittle failure generally occurs through the growth, interaction and coalescence of small-scale microcracks to produce large-scale macrofractures. Furthermore, such cracking can be either distributed or localized. In this session, we aim to consider the different stress, pressure and temperature conditions under which distributed or localized deformation can occur.

We welcome contributions from field, experimental, modelling or theoretical studies, or any combination of these.
