East Asia is one of most complex climate regions because it is influenced not only by the mid-latitude climate system but also by the tropical climate system. The recent scientific report warns a possibility on an abrupt climate shift in this region toward subtropical climate region. Furthermore, a fast economic growth causes a degradation of air quality and a reinforcement of global warming by consuming more fossil fuel. Therefore, accurate and timely knowledge on the climate and the environment changes in this region is essential for understanding how climate and environment in East Asia change for the present and in the future. This is also crucial for adequate strategy developments in the context of climate change adaptation along with improvements of the future climate prediction in this region.

This session invites contributions on climate and environment changes that occur in the East Asia region and surrounding area.
