The GI1 Open Session on Geoscience Instrumentation (GI) is likely to be the only European forum with an open call for professional conference papers in the field of Geoscience Instrumentation, Software and Data Systems. There are two main aims of the GI1 Open Session – to make acquainted the scientific and engineering geoscience community a) with new instrumentation and b) with new methods or new areas of the existing instruments application. There is no preference to any special branch of geoscience – electromagnetic, seismic, acoustic, gravity etc. – all are equally interesting. Moreover, this session is planned as an open forum where different ideas in GI and methodology of its application can be discussed and mutual exchange of this knowledge could generate the new break-through in the frontier problems of modern geoscience.
An accent within the session is made at the GI application for environmental monitoring and security providing. Corresponding examples could be archeological survey, rubbish deposits study, unexploded ordnance and/or mines detection, water dams inspecting, seismic hazards monitoring to name a few. Taking into account that the years 2007-2008 were these of International Heliospheric Year (IHY), a special attention of the GI1 Session of this year is on the results of experiments in frames of IHY and relevant instrumentation.
