This session is aimed at providing a forum for the discussion of the latest advances in fundamentals of crystallization from solution. Contributions reporting new theoretical and experimental studies of the physical, chemical, and biological phenomena related to the growth and dissolution of crystalline materials are encouraged. Communications related to the following topics will be highlighted: thermodynamics and kinetics of crystal growth and dissolution, new experimental studies of crystallization and dissolution using ESEM, XRD, synchrotron-based micro-spectroscopic methods, NMR, and AFM, effect of organic additives on crystal growth and dissolution, pressure solutions, damage and fracture of porous materials induced by salt crystallization, mass transport processes within porous materials, and theoretical simulations using models such as poromechanics or molecular dynamics.
