This late-breaking session is planned to discuss several aspects of the 11 March 2011 Tohoku (Sendai) Earthquake and Tsunami. Invited speakers will present various aspects that regard 1) the earthquake event, covering the tectonic setting of the source area, seismic wave recording and interpretation, magnitude determinations, earthquake damage evaluation, as well as 2) the triggered tsunami event, including the disastrous consequences along the coasts of the Tohoku region in Japan and the propagation in the intermediate and the far-field across the Pacific Ocean, and the role and performance of the Tsunami Early Warning systems. Socio-economic consequences of the event will be also addressed. In addition to invited speakers, free contributions on the subject are strongly encouraged and sincerely welcome in the form of posters.
