This 2012 EGU TS5.1 Session aims to gather presentations on rifted margins and their onshore analogues in general. Contributions from field studies, data analyses and models are welcome, and multidisciplinary studies are encouraged. We will focus our interest on contributions addressing the influence, evolution and interaction of key rifting processes such as deformation modes, sedimentary processes, serpentinisation, magmatism, and lithospheric thermal characteristics. In addition, as the formation of rifted margins has profound consequences for the inboard onshore geology - in terms of uplift, erosion, landscape formation and sediment transport - the contributions will also show how onshore geology is applied to shed light on these tectonic processes.
