From the geophysical and geotechnical point of view, civil engineering and urban planning includes the several geophysical/geotechnical topics to investigate the physical properties and to use physical techniques for regional and local land use planning or micro-zonation and natural disaster risk estimation studies etc. Geophysical and geotechnical analysis of soils provide the solutions to a wide range of problems: slope stability, pipeline studies, soil liquefaction and amplification studies, site investigations and testing, water works, dams, subways, etc. For engineers and scientists, the strength, the stress-deformation behavior and the fluid flow properties of earth materials are of primary concern and form the framework of the geotechnical and geophysical.
