Soils provide is with a range of ecosystem services : food production, carbon storage, water regulations etc, etc. Can soils be sustained or enhanced to continue this provision of services? Are their thresholds beyond which soils can no longer provide us with the services we need? Can we develop, or do we have, early warning systems for detect irreversible change in the soil's ability to provide the services we need.
