Measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from urban centres is quickly growing interest in Europe and the US. This work is being driven by the fact that the identification and quantification of GHG emissions can be used to incentivize changes in transportation and land use patterns, critical information if government policy makers are to make informed decisions. Interest in measuring GHG emissions at the urban scale is quickly growing with the focus on utilizing a variety of measurement tools, including networks of analysers, aircraft measurements, measurements from vehicles, flux measurements, just to name a few.
This session is open to those focused on efforts to measure and quantify greenhouse gas emissions at the city / urban scale (maybe at the regional scale as well). To this end, we welcome those involved with GHG concentration and emissions measurements around urban centres to present their work. In addition, because it is a very fast growing area, plans to develop such measurement capabilities around specific cities or regions are also welcomed. It is hoped that the session will bring together many researchers and, potentially, policy makers interested in pooling resources and collaborating on such projects.
