Science communication workshop (co-organized)
Convener: Bárbara Ferreira
Thu, 01 May, 17:30–19:00

The news media is a very powerful tool to help scientists communicate their research to wider audiences. Understanding the requirements of the press means that scientists can effectively tailor their work to maximise the benefits of public outreach. This workshop will demonstrate how scientists can prepare their research for the news media. Alongside keynote talks from science media experts, participants will be given practical training from outreach editors in the transformation of their work from research paper to newspaper.

Note: Delegates are invited to bring copies of their conference abstracts for participation in the practical activities.

Confirmed keynote speakers:
*Tom Sheldon, Senior Press Officer, Science Media Centre, UK
*Bárbara Ferreira, EGU Media and Communications Manager, Germany

Editors of science-outreach website Climatica.org.uk:
*Kathryn Adamson, Lecturer in Physical Geography, Queen Mary, University of London, UK
*Tim Lane, Postdoctoral Researcher, Laboratoire de Geographie Physique, CNRS, Paris, France
