The Future of Scientific Meetings: What will EGU2024 look like? (public)
Conveners: Tim van Emmerik , Rolf Hut
Thu, 01 May, 12:15–13:15

Most scientific meetings have had a similar setup for decades. Sessions filled with (PowerPoint) presentations, posters sessions and business meetings. The questions are now: Isn’t there an innovate format that conveys our messages better? Isn’t there a way to use the time given more efficiently and effectively? Can’t we use other media for the purpose of communicating our research? For example, EGU has introduced in 2013 a new type of presentation: PICO (see http://www.egu2014.eu/pico.html)

The goal of this splinter meeting is to brainstorm about possible improvements and innovative ideas to change the setup of scientific meetings. The session is organized by the Young Hydrologic Society (YHS) and focusses on young scientists, since they are the ones that have to attend future meetings. So why not transform the shared criticism into ideas about how our meetings should look like in 10 years from now?

Although the session targets early career scientists, the discussion and brainstorm session are open to everyone interested in thinking about the future of scientific meetings.
