Emerging research fields in geomorphology
Convener: Jan Henrik Blöthe  | Co-Conveners: Sabine Kraushaar , Wolfgang Schwanghart

Geomorphology is a rapidly evolving discipline that gains increasing importance in many geo- and environmental sciences. Earth surface processes have long started 'uniting the normally disparate disciplines of solid Earth geology, geomorphology and atmospheric and oceanographic sciences' (Allen 2008). Yes, geomorphology matters, although it may be invisible sometimes (Tooth 2009). This session intends to function as a platform for assessing where geomorphic research stands and what the emerging fields are that need to be addressed in the future. It invites young and senior researchers who wish to concisely review their field of research, discuss major controversies and envision opportunities for further research. Where possible, contributions should highlight the importance of their geomorphological research in a wider environmental or societal context. We cordially invite presentations on upcoming research directives and initiatives.
