This session invites submissions related to water productivity and water footprints. In particular, we invite contributions that develop and compare methods to quantify and map green, blue and grey water footprints, assess implications of water footprint concepts for water scarcity, sustainability, and water pollution, and analyze uncertainties in the calculation of water footprints. The focus is on the water footprint of agriculture, industrial production, and energy (including conventional and unconventional oil and gas resources and biofuels). Other submissions of interest include: water footprint scenarios; links between water footprint, trade and policy; impacts of water use for energy development across scales; and the application of water footprint assessment in strategies of water governance and corporate water stewardship.

This session is jointly developed with the framework of the Panta Rhei Research Initiative of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) under the research theme of Water Footprint Assessment.
