NASA-ESA-EGU joint Union session
Convener: Özgür Karatekin  | Co-Convener: Hans Thybo
Orals
 / Mon, 18 Apr, 13:30–16:55

A large number of satellites of ESA and NASA monitor the Earth and the other Solar System bodies providing data for the geosciences, the planetary and space sciences. Coordinated series of satellite and airborne missions for long-term global observations of the land surface, biosphere, solid Earth, atmosphere, and oceans enables an improved understanding of the Earth as an integrated system and the impact that human activity is having on natural Earth processes. The agencies’ heliophysiscs mission helps to understanding the Sun, heliosphere, and planetary environments as a single connected system while the planetary exploration missions are focused on understanding Earth’s relationship with the other planets, an essential stepping stone for exploring the wider universe. In this session, the ongoing and future satellite mission of ESA & NASA and their role for geoscience, planetary and space science communities will be addressed.
