The goal of this course is to provide an overview of the SMAP satellite mission and its soil moisture and freeze/thaw data products including information on the instruments, retrieval algorithms, datasets, calibration and validation, and end user applications. A hands-on portion will familiarize participants with SMAP data products – data access, file contents, processing and usage – and provide examples of applications in weather, climate, agriculture, floods and droughts.
