The communicating geoscientist

This short course will focus on the various ways scientists can communicate science and do public engagement. We plan to invite a panel of scientists who do different types of science outreach – blogging and social media, share science in schools, science videos, etc. – to share their experiences.

Public information: Confirmed speakers for the panel are:

Cindy Mora Stock - a seismology researcher at the Department for Earth Sciences, University of Concepción, Chile. Cindy has experience in outreach to school aged children and engaging the public via social media.

Simon Clark - an atmospheric sciences PhD researcher at the University of Exeter, UK. In 2010, Simon set up his own YouTube channel (SimonOxfPhys) where he regularly vlogs about all things environment, science and life as a research student.

Sophie Berger - a glaciology PhD student at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Sophie is part of the editorial team for the EGU's Cryosphere Divsion blog and joins the panel to share her expertise in this field.

Rolf Hut - a hydrologist at Delft University, Rolf has used storytelling as a tool to communicate his research to broad audiences and will be sharing tips and hints as to how to do this effectively during this short course.
