The news media is a powerful tool to help scientists communicate their research to wider audiences. While in traditional science journalism, researchers share their science with reporters who then communicate it with the public, in recent years there has been an increasing number of outlets (e.g. The Conversation) that allow researchers to communicate directly with the public. This short course will focus on how scientists can and should pitch their research to media outlets, either to science journalists who can then write about the research, or directly to editors who could then commission a piece from the scientist.
