The session aims for studies of soil mechanisms responsible for valuable soil properties and functions, biospheric stability, through studying the soil cover as complex self-organized system. Research groups with results or developed ideas in modeling of time evolution of spatially distributed systems. Especially interactions between biological activity with organic matter transformations through feedbacks with soil physical properties are of great interest. Particularly, appreciated are hybrid modeling combining continuous and discrete approaches. The session aims to bring together researchers trying to describe macroscopic experimental observations involving any approach of micro-to-macro scale modeling. Special interest is paid to approaches to reveal and model dynamics of system driving parameters at different space-time scales.
Studies related to stability and prediction of emergence and collapse of space-time patterns of self-organization in soil are of further interest. Advanced technical approaches including efficient numerical methods, interactive modeling and experimental studies of space-time patterns of soil properties will be of great interest to integrate into the overall session frame.
