The recently formed Women in Coastal Geo-sciences and Engineering (WICGE) network aims at being instrumental in achieving gender equality in coastal geoscience and engineering. I am currently co-conveying a new session on Coastal Morphodynamics (GM12.5) in collaboration with my colleagues Emilia Guisado-Pintado and Derek Jackson. Emilia and myself are founding members of WICGE and would like to use the opportunity of gathering exceptional colleagues from all over the world in Vienna to celebrate the first WICGE event at the EGU.
WICGE works across age groups, genders, and career levels, in academia, government and industry. We have developed some practical objectives including inspiring women to pursue a career in STEM, work for gender equality at events such as conferences, and support early career researchers through mentoring and networking.
This event will allow us to celebrate the contributions of women to coastal geosciences and engineering. The event is open to all the public, is non-commercial. The goal is to provide an inspiring and positive environment to people from all genders.
