The IPCC sixth assessment cycle: how to get involved
Convener: Sarah Connors
Tue, 25 Apr, 13:30–15:00

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is in its sixth Assessment Report cycle (AR6). AR6 will include three special reports (SR) in addition to the main Working Group (WG) and methodological reports. The first SR, published in late 2018, will focus on global warming of 1.5 °C (SR1.5). The other two SRs, available a year later, will focus on climate change and oceans and the cryosphere (SROCC), and climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security, and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems (SR2).
This short course will provide an overview of the IPCC AR6 process, including updates on each SR. Speakers will highlight the deadlines for publications to be cited in the successive report drafts, the timeline of the review process, and the various options to be involved in the assessments (coordinating lead authors, lead authors, review editors, contributing authors, chapter scientists etc.). This will include opportunities for Early Career Scientists (ECS) to be involved.
There will be a chance for discussion through a Q&A period at the end of the session.
