Coastal Geomorphology (BSG sponsored session) (public)
Convener: Irene Delgado-Fernandez
Tue, 25 Apr, 19:00–20:00

In recent years, the field of coastal geomorphology has benefited from interdisciplinary advances in geoscience, bio-geography, mathematical modelling and social sciences. However, most research efforts have conventionally concentrated on individual sub-units within the science with limited focus on linking processes and responses across the entire discipline.

Recent methodological advances have enabled traditionally isolated coastal disciplines to be examined across various zones, promoting integration across multiple time and space scales and thus helping to couple processes with actual landform response. The EGU has seen a proliferation of coastal and marine geomorphologic-themed sessions and it is therefore timely to now highlight the commonality within this area of the geosciences to promote a focusing of research priorities in the discipline.

This splinter meeting on Coastal Geomorphology will provide an excellent opportunity to promote further discussion on the latest developments in our understanding of coastal environments as well as encouraging early career scientists and students to think holistically to address interdisciplinary challenges and geomorphological issues currently preventing adequate quantification of coastal evolution at a variety of scales.
