In the last decades, the use of palaeomagnetic and rock magnetic analysis on volcanic rocks has importantly increased. On one hand, palaeomagnetic studies on historical or well dated volcanic eruptions can offer important data to better understand the variation and evolution of the Earth's magnetic field in the past. On the other hand, palaeomagnetic and rock magnetic measurements such as magnetic anisotropy, magnetic mineralogy, thermoremanent magnetization can be efficiently used to better understand several volcanic processes and contribute to volcanic risk assessment. This session invites studies from all areas of palaeomagnetic and rock magnetism applied to volcanic rocks, including new data, methodological advances, innovative applications and future perspectives.
