tropical ecosystems responses to global environmental change: modeling and field observations
Convener: Arturo Sanchez-Azofeifa  | Co-Conveners: Saulo Castro , Philip Marzahn , David Medvigy

This section will seek to provide a comprehensive overview of the response of tropical rain, moist and dry forest to global environmental change. We will see contributions on issues ranging from field observations to local and global modeling that involve tropical regions. We would like to bring presentations from the neo and old-tropics. The session will also explore gaps associated with the integration of lianas in tropical research, an element that it is hardly considered in many field and modeling efforts. In addition, the session will be also open to contributions on remote sensing ranging from plot level to landscape level using emerging drone and remote sensing technologies. The response of extreme events such el Nino and la Nina and their integration of field campaigns to provide field observations as well as the integration of these events on terrestrial ecosystem models will be also part of the session. The session is expected to be broad enough to allow for a comprehensive overview of the current state of research in tropical environments that in general is presented in fragmented sessions.
