Weather and environmental conditions play a crucial role in smooth air traffic management (ATM). Especially 4D air traffic trajectory management is a key concept to meet future growth in air traffic. However, aircraft often deviate from the planned 4D trajectory due to uncertainties related to weather and environmental conditions during flight, departure and arrival at airports. This calls for methodologies and tools providing accurate situational awareness information and probability forecasts both in the local operational user environment and en-route.

This session welcomes presentations in the field of ATM quantifying the uncertainties related to ground operations due to weather and environmental conditions, as well as discussing mitigation actions of those uncertainties. Probabilistic short term (0-3 hours) forecasting methodologies and use cases in ATM applications are especially welcome. We also call for presentations on how to identify and promote the potential use of short term probability forecasts and situational awareness tools in variety of airport activities. This includes, e.g., airport demand and Capacity Balancing, enhanced runway throughput, de-icing activities, runway maintenance and increasing the security of ATM operations.
