CVs, websites, and social media often celebrate the highlights of an academic career, which can appear quite intimidating for an Early Career Scientist. Where do we hear about the unsuccessful grant proposal, the rejected journal paper, or the job interview that seemed certain? Failure doesn’t make it onto a CV, yet it is as much a part of life in academia as success.
Following the ‘How I Fail’ format from Dr Veronika Cheplygina (http://www.veronikach.com/how-i-fail/), we will hear from researchers at various stages of their careers on their past failures and—more importantly—what they learned from them.
We aim to provide insight into the reality of career paths in academia and research, and leave you with some advice and strategies for coping with failure and turning it into success.
