The original town-house style is come from China, and it doesn’t only appear in Taiwan and China, but also appear in Macao, Singapore, Malaysia and Chinatown all over the world. In Chin period, local resident voluntarily established the arcade, but in Japanese period, law restricted it. Nowadays, the town-houses we see were formatted in Japanese period.
The preservation in Di-Hwa Street was processed from 1988, but the resident distrusted it cause by the infringement of private property and adaptation of modern lifestyle. It can be settled by learning the flexible preservation plan of Singapore and policy preservation system in Japan. How to gain the understanding and support of local resident will be an important problem to be solved.
The town-houses with arcade in Di-Hwa Street, Taipei City, which are important heritage of Taiwan. Di-Hwa Street is one of the most traditional towns in Taipei. The town-houses are built side by side, and their beautiful facades are continued over 1 kilometer. The facades’ style can be sorted out to 5 different styles. Building of town-houses was started from A.D.1851. And they had been consolidated in the 1930s and 1940s. The 5 styles called as “Min-Nan Style”, “Imitating Western Style”, “Western Style”, “Baroque Style” and “Modern architecture Style” in Taiwan.
Contents of Workshop:
1 Visiting in Dadaochen, and draw the life map of Dadaochen.
2 Talking with key person, to understanding the Dadaochen area.
3 Searching local stories and resources, and form the image of Dadaochen.
4 Developing the map of stories in : Tourism, Culture Creative, Community Consciousness, Art Street, etc..
5 Proposing the new blueprint of Future Life Image.
