In many countries, particularly developing ones, industrial outputs can result in heavy-metal contamination of the air, water, soils, and/or plants. This session focuses on heavy-metal contamination as a hazard, and solicits contributions that are applied and theoretical, in areas ranging from (a) field trials and modelling of heavy-metal contamination as it progresses from the source to the air, water, soils, and/or plants, (b) monitoring techniques, including low-cost, for heavy-metals in the environment, (c) mitigation of Heavy-metal contamination in areas already effected, again including low-costs. We welcome contributions ranging from experimental, laboratory, to modelling, with emphasis (but not limited to) low-cost ideas and research that might be applied to developing countries. This session will consist of (a) an all poster session with participants brought around as a group by the chair to discuss each poster, and (b) if enough interest, an associated discussion session of one to two hours in a splinter room.
