The last several years have seen tremendous progress worldwide in increasing the impact of Earth and Space Science Informatics (ESSI) in Education and Public Outreach (EPO). There is now an enhanced understanding of pathways and protocols that bring authentic data to the public and the students at all levels, from primary schools to university.
ESSI EPO efforts are based on the exploitation of the state-of-the-art tools, such as the Virtual Observatories and the Virtual Globes, to demonstrate how data and information searches and visualizations can be made easy both to the layman and to the student (and to the advanced user as well) in a transparent way.
ESSI EPO activities are still at their infancy and tools for making data accessible to nonspecialist users is evolving quickly and dynamically. Hence the aim of this session is to serve as a forum for the presentation and discussion of the ongoing and forthcoming activities and projects.
Interested participants are encouraged to submit their abstracts for oral or poster presentation on any aspects relevant to ESSI EPO.
