Recent years have seen a substantial progress in the understanding of nonlinear aspects of the wind-driven and thermohaline ocean circulation. In fact, a significant part of the ocean circulation variability appears to be governed by nonlinear, often low-order dynamics.

In this context, this session is open to contributions about all nonlinear aspects of the ocean circulation and of its variability. Communications based on theoretical and modeling studies, as well as on experimental investigations (through either observations or laboratory experiments) are welcome. An explicit aim of this session is to generate a wider appreciation of nonlinear aspects of the ocean circulation and of the corresponding tools of the trade. Thus, presentations accessible to a broad oceanographic audience are particularly encouraged.
