The origin of the Tibetan Plateau is largely unknown. Despite agreement on first-order features and mechanisms, critical aspects such as the exact timing and nature of collision, the timing of plateau initiation, and the evolution of the height and width of the Tibetan Plateau, are disputed, untested or unknown. This session will allow a discussion across disciplines of the recent and major contributions to our understanding of the growth of the Tibetan Plateau. Specifically, but not exclusively, we invite contributors from the fields of surface processes, structural geology, rheology, geodesy and geophysics.
