Present-day, concepts and techniques from network theory are frequently used for studying the structures and spatio-temporal dynamics of complex systems in various scientific disciplines. Meanwhile, applications also cover the different fields of geosciences, ranging from hydrology (scaling of river networks) and climatology (precipitation networks, temperature networks, networks of meteorological stations,...) to seismology (earthquake or general geodynamical networks) and natural hazard research (disaster spreading, causality networks).
This session will collect contributions from researchers working on data analysis and conceptual modelling in the different geoscientific disciplines and bring them together for discussing and exchanging knowledge about the current state of network approaches in their specific fields. Given enough interest by the participants, it is intended to collect selected presentations as well as some review chapters in a special publication.
