Orogenic plateaux represent some of the most imposing topographic features on Earth, especially Tibet, the Altiplano and the Turkish-Iranian plateau. Increasing attention is being paid to their impacts on crustal evolution, magmatism, strain accommodation during plate convergence, and regional and global impacts on climate. This session aims to bring together geoscientists working on all aspects of current orogenic plateaux. Examples of specific subject areas include: interactions of tectonics and magmatism, the identification of analogues for modern plateaux in the geological record, effects of plateau growth on landscape evolution, feedbacks with climate.
