Shallow marine and coastal depositional environments are affected by episodic and at times dramatic high energy modifications connected to storms, hurricanes and tsunami. The recognition of diagnostic features of onshore and offshore tsunami deposits, and their distinction from storm and hurricane deposits remains one of the unresolved issues of process sedimentology. Rates and styles of recovery of the sedimentary systems after such events are equally important issues. This session aims at bringing together studies of modern and ancient tsunami, storm and hurricane deposits in an attempt to elucidate distinctive and common characteristics and processes of deposition and recovery.
