This general session of the divison gives an overview of its interdisciplinarity, which is needed to tackle the challenges of the future. Beside others, this is to provide adequate and reliable supplies of affordable energy and other resources, obtained in environmentally sustainable ways, which will be essential to economic prosperity, environmental quality and political stability around the world.
