Clay minerals and hydrous Fe and Al oxides dominate the available solid surface area in soils and sediments and are considered to control many environmentally important processes such as the cycling
of nutrients, metals and organic pollutants. Likewise they are utilised in a broad range of industrial, environmental and geotechnical applications, including: petroleum engineering, drilling muds, soil mechanics, landfill lining, ceramics, and deep geological nuclear waste disposal. The aim of this session is to bring together researchers from different areas to disseminate and discuss the most topical research across the spectrum of scales from nano to macro. Contributions are welcome from field, experimental, modelling and application case studies.
