GM7.13 Asian rivers: from mountain to ocean |
Convener: Christian France-Lanord | Co-Convener: Christophe Colin |
We invite contribution across a range of geoscience sub-disciplines directed at the understanding of Asian river systems. In particular we highlight the sensitivity of river basins to changes in the monsoon climate over a range of millennial to tectonic timescale, as well as to the evolving topography of Asia since the onset of India-Eurasia collision. The session will cover the geomorphological reaction of rivers to climate change and the nature of sediment source-to-sink processes through major river systems in the recent past and over longer periods of the Cenozoic. Studies that consider the role of rivers in their tectonic context and the roles they play in controlling orogenic structure are welcomed. Reconstructions of river development, including drainage capture through the sedimentary record will form an important part of the session.
