Blogs, twitter, facebook, and other social media channels have become established outlets to communicate scientific knowledge and engage in public discussions about academic research or current scientific events. Alongside journalists and other science communicators, government and non-profit organisations, scientists too are increasingly using these outlets to discuss science, communicate their own research, and engage audiences. This session will explore the ways in which scientists can use blogs and social media to communicate science in general, and their own research in particular. Why should scientists blog or use twitter? What type of information should they share online? How to find the time to have an online presence? Scientist bloggers and social media experts will address these and other questions in this session.
