There are still many outstanding questions regarding the petrogenesis of the Earth’s crust and the dynamics of its formation and destruction through time, especially during the early stages of Earth's evolution. Although the present-day continental crust and the depleted upper mantle are often considered as complementary reservoirs, questions on the modus operandi of continental crust generation, its volume, and its interaction with the mantle since Earth's formation remain a matter of great debate. New perspectives are rising from the increasing understanding of the geochemical record preserved in rocks and minerals, the improvement of analytical techniques, and the development of both analogue and numerical modelling of crust-mantle interaction through time. We therefore welcome in this session contributions that address the origin and evolution of the crust and/or the lithosphere, using one, or a combination of these different approaches.
