SPM1.37 QA4ECV Community Consultation for Quality Metrics in Satellite-Derived ECV Records |
Co-Convener: Jan-Peter Muller |
Fri, 02 May, 12:15–13:15
Fri, 02 May, 13:30–15:00 |
Satellite data users need to be able to make rapid judgments on the validity and trustworthiness of Earth Observation data and the derived climate data sets. The QA4ECV (Quality Assurance for Essential Climate Variables) project is an international effort with 16 contributing partners, funded under theme 9 (Space) of the European Union Framework Program 7, which will develop a Quality Assurance (QA) system for observational data products. QA4ECV will perform a detailed practical demonstration of the QA concept concentrating on six Essential Climate Variables (terrestrial and atmosphere), for which harmonized retrievals will be developed based on the communities’ best practice.
As part of the project, the National Physical Laboratory are conducting a survey concerning the state of and need for quality assurance in satellite-derived data products. We are targeting the users of these products to gauge what products are being utilised, the quality indicators supplied with the products, how the QA information is used and if QA information is not available, what the user would like to see provided.
This lunch time consultation meeting will provide the opportunity to report on main findings of the survey to date and capture your additional feedback for the development of the QA system to ensure it is useful to you, the data user!
If you are interested in joining us for a free lunch and lively conversation about QA in satellite data products, please log your interest with ella.garnham@npl.co.uk as space is limited.
