SSP2.4.1 Cenozoic stratigraphy and paleoenvironments |
Convener: André Bornemann | Co-Conveners: Oliver Friedrich , Jörg Pross , Lucas Lourens |
The Cenozoic era covers a number of climate transitions on various timescales like the long-term shift from an early Paleogene greenhouse to an Oligocene/Neogene icehouse, or on much shorter, orbitally-controlled time scales the transient warming events of the early Paleogene and Quaternary ice ages. Detailed investigations of such key intervals, but also of environmental background dynamics depend strongly on the quality of age control and the integrated application of paleoenvironmental proxies.
For this session we invite interdisciplinary contributions that provide new clues about integrated Cenozoic stratigraphy (e.g. biostratigraphy, cyclostratigraphy, geochronology) and/or high-resolution paleoenvironmental reconstructions (marine and non-marine) based on new sedimentological, geochemical or paleontological results.
