It has been passed 15 years since Izmit (Kocaeli) Earthquake occurred in 1999. According to historical earthquakes, epicenters are shifting from East to West along the North Anatolian Fault. The Marmara Sea should be focused on because of a seismic gap in the North Anatolian Fault. In the Marmara region, there is Istanbul city with high population density, so, the seismic risk seems to be the same condition of Tokyo as Metropolitan city. Therefore, Japan and Turkey can share our experiences gained from past destructive earthquakes and we can prepare for expected large Earthquakes and Tsunamis in cooperation with each other as SATREPS project. In this session, presentation on newly obtained results on Earthquake hazard and disaster mitigation are very much welcome.
