During this round table, we wish to discuss the reality of the competitive model in science, confront views and experiences, talk about some of its neglected aspects, and explore alternative models.
The debate could broadly run along those lines:
1-Competition in science, where does it come from, when and why did it become institutionalised?
2-Different types of cooperation (competitive or non-competitive)
3-The significance of scientific publication, evaluation and peer-review in the different models
4-Personal experiences of the participants with competition and with collaboration
5-Suggestions for change, modification, amendment.
