Prof. Carl Christian Tscherning passed away unexpectedly at October 24, 2014. Over a period of decades Christian was one of the leading and most famous geodesists our time; he has done and published groundbreaking work especially in the context of the gravity field determination. In the year 2008 he awarded the Vening Meinesz Medal of the EGU Geodesy Division for his fundamental contributions to physical geodesy and his unselfish involvement within the International Association of Geodesy. In remembrance of a great scientist we will organize this commemoration ceremony.
