Following the popular and successful edition at last year’s General Assembly, the Filmmaker Workshop is back! Communicating science to a wider audience is becoming an increasingly important part of academic research. With this scientists are adopting a variety of communication strategies to reach the general public. Video presentation offers a unique opportunity for geoscientists to discuss their work in an engaging and stimulating manner. This workshop will cover how to use video to share research with a non-technical audience and discuss what video can and cannot do for you.
The workshop will be divided into two parts:
The first part comprises a discussion with some of the finalists from the EGU video competition 2014 about the approach they took, as well as analysing its effectiveness and reach to a wider audience, followed by a more general discussion into the reach of science videos on the internet.
The second part will cover aspects about editing and post-production from a general perspective (editing techniques and things to look out for), as well as presenting some of the current technical tools available for editing, animation and post production.
