After more than 100 data articles published in ESSD, and more under review in ESSDD, it is timely to compare and discuss experiences and expectations of editors with this - still - quite new topic of publishing and reviewing(!) of data articles and data itself.

Although almost each article seems to have distinctive character, patterns are emerging, such as publication of primary data, data "collections" and derived "products" and updating of global or regional data collections and products.

We invite editors and would welcome their input to further improve the quality and attractiveness of ESSD to readers and authors as well as reviewers and editors.

Of course there will also be an update by the chief editors on statistics and recent developments.
