Geological mapping, from outcrop- to orogen-scale, has become more and more digital over the past decades. Digital capturing of geological data in the field, in combination with geophysical data (magnetics, gravimetry and/or radiometry) and/or remote sensing methods such as photogrammetry, LIDAR and laser altimetry etc. has changed the way how geological maps are produced and made available for further analysis and distribution.
In this PICO-session we would like to bring together field geologists who are actively using and/or developing digital mapping techniques in research, teaching or industry within different fields (general mapping, structural geology, petrology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, geomorphology etc.), to present case studies and share and discuss their experiences. This session allows you to show your map, to explain which techniques and approaches you used to collect and present the data, to inspire others to use the same tools, or to warn them not to do so… share your experience with digital mapping within the interactive PICO-format!
