OS4.6 Media Marine Pollution Assessment, Predictions and Risk Mapping |
Convener: Giovanni Coppini | Co-Conveners: Paolo G. Albano , George Zodiatis , Ramiro Neves |
Operational oceanography offers the background dynamical hydrodynamic fields to increase accuracy and implement fate and transport predictions for marine pollutants, such as oil spills from different sources (e.g. platforms, ships, accidents), litter and other contaminants, both land and air born. Advanced models of polluting reactive tracers will be discussed as well as the coupling with operational met-oceanographic transport fields from Copernicus Marine Service or others. Parcel trajectory numerical schemes, ensemble and multi-model methods, uncertainties estimation, risk algorithms and decision support systems are solicited topics. Impacts of pollutants on the marine ecosystem and resilience to pollution events are also important subjects for discussion. Integration with observing systems both for data assimilation and validation are also welcome.
