The emergence of new terrestrial palaeoclimate records (lake sediments, cave, loess and other terrestrial deposits) and the significant progress achieved recently in understanding the Late Quaternary environments call for a new approach in tracking environmental changes at the time of final modern human dispersal into Eurasia and the cultural development during the Upper Paleolithic. With climate conditions that have varied abruptly in the past on decadal-centennial timescales, both spatially and temporarily, understanding the true local connection between people and their environment is still a major challenge.

We welcome contributions that could provide reference records from multi-disciplinary research into the interaction between humans and their environment during Late Quaternary, more closely integrating anthropological and archaeological research with palaeoclimate and environmental sciences, by focusing on the development of new environmental proxies, contextualization of sedimentary environments and integration of numerical dating results (luminescence, radiocarbon, tephrochronology). Contributions seeking to provide contextual basis for understanding human dynamics in close connection to biodiversity changes modulated by past climate are also welcomed.
