Organised in cooperation with the European Research Council (ERC), Europe's premiere funding agency for frontier research, this session will explore the reasons for an imbalanced representation of different groups (cultural, national and gender) in the form of a debate with scientists, decision-makers and policy analysts related to geosciences.
The session will focus both on obstacles and on concrete actions to tackle them. Contributions are solicited to address:

- Concrete examples of imbalanced representation preferably supported by data (namely awards, grants, high-level positions, invited talks, etc.);
- Perceived barriers to various sorts of inclusion and bias (conscious and unconscious);
- Successful strategies that people are currently using to overcome the barriers (e.g. mentoring, networking, etc.)
- Recommendations for new strategies to further overcome barriers

The session will include an interactive discussion.

Solicited presentation: Alberto Montanari, Chair of the EGU Awards Committee

This session is co-organised with the European Association of Geochemistry
