The motion to be debated is: Large cities mitigate the effects of climate change More than 5 million people worldwide die prematurely each year as a result of air pollution. Cities, particularly in developing countries, are growing explosively, with dramatic impact of the health of their populations. Smaller cities are more liveable but large cities have advantages in terms of transport efficiency and economic vitality, factors needed to realize the energy transition required to counter the effects of climate change. These and related issues will be addressed in the Great Debate Confirmed speakers Speakers: Alexander Baklanov, World Meteorological Organization, Geneva Luisa Tan Molina, MIT, USA |
